Family papers, 1842-1887.

The collection contains genealogical materials, correspondence, Berryman's papers and writings, and Grace Berryman's school papers. The correspondence includes items from Mr. and Mrs. Albert S. White and an invitation from Mrs. Daniel Webster. Berryman's papers include student writings; correspondence; condolence letters upon his death; legal papers concerning his wife's inheritance from her first husband; and Berryman's writings, including lodge speeches and political, patriotic, literary, and humorous writings.

White was born in New York and studied law. After moving to Lafayette, Ind., he became active in state politics and later served in the U.S. House and Senate. He was appointed by President Lincoln to adjust claims for Indian depredations, and was appointed a federal district judge in 1864. He also practiced law with Rufus A.
